The Day After

I have always had a special connection with the Scandinavian Countries, and it showed this week end. My forecast proved to be far, very far from the actual results...but for one rider: Finland's Matti Seistola, MX2 veteran racing for the SRS Honda Team. Also, Marc "Calimero" de Reuver rode very well and ended up 4th overall: just one point off the podium in the first race after returning from an injury!

Here's the difference between my forecast and the actual results:

MX2 MX1
My Forecast Race Results My Forecast Race Results
1) Rattray Krestinov 1) Ramon Barragan
2) Searle Goncalves 2) Coppins de Dycker
3) van Horenbeek Searle 3) Barragan Nagl
4) Eggens Rattray 4) de Dycker de Reuver
5) Simpson van Horebeek 5) Leok Ramon
6) Frossard Roelants 6) de Reuver Pourcel
7) Krestinov Aubin 7) Philappaerts Coppins
8) Seistola Seistola 8) Mackenzie Nemeth
9) Aubin Simpson 9) Nagl Mackenzie
10) Osbourne Guarnieri 10) Priem Philappaerts

I watched the highlights of the GP of Belgium and it's a lot of fun to watch: the top 10 riders in both classes are very close to each other in terms of speed and this makes for very entertaining racing in both classes. I agree that Stewart and Villopoto raise the bar and in order for the sport's technique to develop you need riders like Everts and Carmichael, still I think a more leveled field provides more exciting racing. And it seems the Mx1 World Championship in 2009 will be one of the most exciting racing seasons ever with 14 riders having the speed and the equipment to run for a spot on the box.
